Gossip: Quad Core Laptops - Hurray! |
Intel could soon be releasing a Quad Core chip designed for laptops. Rumoured to be called the 'Core 2 Extreme QX9300' it uses 12MB L2 cache, a 1066mhz FSB and will be running at a speed of 2.53GHz. The processor will be on a 45nm die with a maximum TDP of 45W.
Now, the gossip is that these processors cost a small fortune, around £500 per chip. That is the price for motherboard manufacturers buying them in batches of a thousand. Whether we will be seeing these laptops soon or not is anyone's guess, but I am sure we can all agree these chips will most likely be inside laptops designed for extreme users (hence the name) and not the average Joe consumer.

Gossip: Nvidia G92b - A future die shrink |
It is being rumoured that a die shrink of the current G92 is on the cards for Nvidia, no pun intended.
G92 is currently 65nm and the future G92b will be 55nm. Slated for release at the same time as AMD/ATi's RV770 (which is also 55nm technology) at the end of Q2. Breaking over at VR-Zone, they are stating that the G92b 55nm will be no match for the RV770. Thus meaning Nvidia will have to pull their finger out and get their Next Genereation GT200 technology out on the market as soon as possible.

Gossip: Nvidia planning a CPU with IGP |
As many of you may already know, Nvidia have already created a CPU of sorts. The AXP 2500 for mobile devices. Luciano Alibrandi, director of product PR for EMEA and India spoke with Custom PC and was quoted as saying; "..from our perspective, the interesting problems and computing problems to be solved for the next century are highly parallel, and require a combination of heterogeneous processing that a CPU alone simply cannot address."
Although clearly not stating that the future of an Nvidia CPU with Integrated Graphics is definite, it does not deny the company are looking into it.
